Pleasant Sunday Afternoon

Hello to you all,
Spending the day alone. Brothers took Mama out for a while and after having a nice nap, I got up, got some coffee, put me feet up and began channel surfing. I have decided to not do any work again today. Last year was pretty busy what with all the book signings and writing. I don't necessarily see this as a waisted day. When I decide to work again, I will return to it reinspired, reinvigerated and ready to go. SOme times we just need to take a break and just chill. That's exactly where I am right now and gosh, it feels wonderful.

PS: Don't tell my brothers but I know they were afraid to take Mama out alone that's why they double teamed her, ha ha ha ha ha.

A cold and rainy but relaxing day

Two years ago today I lost my second oldest brother, George. He was such a gift; everyone who met him cared about him. He was that kind of person. This morning started off not so well, lots of crying, then some praying. As it turned out, Mama and I enjoyed watching the rain, television, we ate and napped. The day turned out to be pleasant inspire of all the losses we are experiencing. Blessings to all.

The reason I write

There are a number of reasons why I write. As I child I stuttered badly, but I always felt I had something to say that I wanted others to hear. I was teased while in elementary school so badly that I made it up in my mind that I was going to say what I had to say. When the words did come out, they did so in a flash and no one understood me anyway so the problem was still there. So early on my parents taught me to read and write. As a child I loved telling stories which more often than not, I wrote them down(went thru quite a bit of paper, too). By writing stories, reports at work, etc, I was able to communicate my thoughts.

The love of writing followed me and I decided to write songs, scripts, book. Now I am an author, writing under a pen name, Leigh McKnight. My birth name is Minnie Dix and I have written a number of books. My first published piece was in 1996,a short story, The Storm Within,From My Front Porch, self-published in 1997, 150 Reasons Why I Can't Serve On Jury Duty(humor), a series of children books, The Oak Trees That Talk(4 books), Belcher, The 10th Reindeer, The Reindeer That Missed The Flight, Champagne Dreams & Chocolate Kisses(short romantic stories. My First novel, From My Front Porch was recently re-published by Urban Soul under two titles, From My Front Porch and Sinners Never Sleep.

I enjoy writing and I am working on several other projects. I am just grateful to have a voice in doing what I so love and I truly want to thank so many of you for loving me and my work. Blessings to you all.

Much Love,
~~Leigh

It's a shame that Wyclef Jean has to defend his charity

It is a shame that Wyclef Jean who obviously loves his country and has supported his people for many years, has to defend his charity in the midst of the disaster Haiti is going through. I have always found it that people tend to talk about people who are affecting change--making a difference. A lot of time people who talk about others, trying to pull them down is not doing one single thing themselves to try to help and that is the real shame. A lot of them are people who have pockets of shame, embarrasing situation that they are trying to hide themselves or have little or nothing to contribute to human kindness. I say to those who has nothing positive to say, rather than trash someone who is bending his back doing the humanitarian thing to the utmost helping as well as involving others to help, WHY DON'T YOU JUST SHUT YOUR MOUTH??????

In the meantime, I know the people of Haiti appreciate what Wyclef Jean and others are doing to help and I hope God continues to bless each of us who do help.

Sugar free banana pudding

Mama is having the time of her life eating her treat--sugar free banana pudding! Go Mama. Gotta love it!

A Beautiful Day

Those of you who are familiar with me know that I am the caregiver for my mother who has Alzheimer's disease. Some days are more difficult than others but every day with her is a blessing. Today, we braved the cold and went out for a while. Momma does not appreciate the brisk air as much as I do and she usually attempts to retreat to the comfort of the warm house. Since I had errands to attend to, I had to foil her attempt. Once we were out, she behaved beautifully! We ended up having a lovely day. Thank God for small favors.

Momma is relaxing while I prepare dinner and a special treat for her. She deserves to be rewarded frequently just for having been such a wonderful mother, but if ever she earned a bit of pampering, it was today.

Momma and I hope that you had a beautiful day as well. If not, hopefully, you'll get the chance to make it happen tomorrow.

Good night and be blessed!

Starting 2010 with a BANG!

We've closed the book on 2009 and ushered in 2010. I don't know about you, but I brought the year in with a bang! The new year found me celebrating with the people who are dearest to me. Once that party was over, I settled down to begin scheduling book signings, editing my next novel and generally gearing up for a successful 2010.

I have thoroughly enjoyed staying connected with my friends, many of whom are fans of my work, and I look forward to meeting lots of new friends. For those of you who are not familiar with my work, I currently have two novels available, From My Front Porch and the sequel, Sinners Never Sleep. Please visit my website to read an excerpt.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Have a blessed and happy New Year!!

Sincerely yours,
Leigh
